Rotten Tomatoes
I don’t know about you guys, but since I signed up for Netflix, I’m spending way more time reading movie reviews. And thus, way more time at Rotten Tomatoes, which has generated quite a bit of well-deserved buzz. “A premier destination for both casual movie-goers and film buffs alike,” this site is a pretty thorough and reliable source for movie and video information. The combination of navigational ease and pure fun make it a place I’ve gotten lost in more than once. (Sighted by Erin Gannon)
Rufus Wainwright
This site has got a Flash version (you choose on the rufuswainwright.com homepage) but the non-flash version is what impressed me. I truly think the Flash version is unnecessary. The HTML version is clean, easily navigable, lightning fast and just flat-out attractive. Say what you will about his music, I find him somewhat entertaining, but his site was designed by someone with cross-browser functionality and slower connections in mind. They accomplished this without compromising design and the coolness factor that is obligatory for the hipster music scene. (Sighted by Robyn Pearson)
Johnny Cash
The passing last week of Johnny Cash left a sizable hole in the music industry but this tasteful Web site makes a fitting tribute to this legend. The site is simple, not at all flashy--but with some nice touches like a scrolling slideshow in the photo section. This is a great site for those who wish to remember the man, the myth, the legend who was Johnnny Cash--and those who would like to learn more.
Good Experience
It's about Web and other interfaces that just don't work, such as messages that don't make sense or some technical hodge podge that creates a bad user experience. Web users submit them as they find them--complete with screen shots and stories. They are actually having a contest this month giving those who submit something a chance to win a digital camera. It ranges from airport signs to Microsoft errors. It's an interesting read. (Sighted by Rachel Plut)
Hyperdictionary
I have seen a lot of online dictionaries. This one has become my favorite. It's six dictionaries and a thesaurus all in one! Type in any word and you'll receive its definition, where applicable, in two different English dictionaries (a contemporary one and an older one), a Biblical dictionary, a high-tech dictionary, a medical dictionary, and a dream interpretation dictionary. Oh ya, plus a fully hyperlinked synonym list and pronunciation guide. You won't be able to stop looking things up. (Sighted by Lori Piquet)
