GraceCathedral.org
This landmark San Francisco church has a surprisingly streamlined Web site. The many services offered by the parish are navigated easily and intuitively--from how to donate to Tsunami relief orgnaizations to downloading audio and video clips of church services and sermons. (Sighted by Erin Gannon)
TattooFinder.com
Ok, the chances that you're in the market for a new tattoo are probably pretty slim, but the way they used Flash to protect the images from piracy was really cool. Bars scroll across the image, so you can see it clearly, but there's no way to copy it. So if you have any sample art on your site or were holding off because you didn't know how to protect it, you might want to check this out. (Sighted by Carrie Sherrill)
WhoYouShouldKnow.com
Americans are well-known for being clueless about world politics and leaders. How many of us could even name the president of Mexico, our own neighbor? This site provides you with information about five international, key business, or humanitarian leaders each week--along with country information from the CIA's World Factbook. Fascinating stuff! Melody Search
Ever had a tune stuck in your head--but can't remember what it is? This site can help. If you have Java enabled and a microphone, you can sing the melody and this site translates that into "Parsons code," which simply determines the direction of notes in the melody in relation to each other; in other words, it notates whether a note is higher (Up), lower (Down), or the same (Repeat) as the preceding note. Here's an example of the code for the first few notes of Beethoven's 5th Symphony (you ignore the first note to enter the code): "RRDURRDURRDURRD." Remarkably, even though this scheme doesn't take timbre, exact pitch, or timing into account, you need only a few notes to unambiguously identify most melodies. If you're at all musical, you can avoid the singing and just type the Parsons code in directly. (Sighted by Russell Jones)
