P.O.V. Borders: Environment
This is the accompanying site for a PBS series focusing on practical environmental awareness. Each segment focuses on one aspect of the problem and suggests easy, practical things you can do to refrain from further damaging the planet. This site is fun, if a little busy--but seeing as how it's from PBS, I'll bet that it's geared towards this latest generation of ADD-inclined gradeschoolers. So that's okay, then. SUVOA: Sport Utility Vehicle Owners of America
This site is run by the SUV Owners of America, and they want the US government to know that they have rights too! The clean design of this single-issue Website comes as a pleasant surprise. Nothing here detracts from the promotion of SUVOA's agenda. It's navigation is extremely streamlined and intuitive, and they've made everything as easy as possible--from researching their positions to donating money to their cause. Whether or not I agree with that cause, I would like to think that such clarity of purpose and focus on utility contributes greatly to a movement's success. (Sighted by Erin Gannon)
XBox Play Together
This site recently won the Flash Film Festival award for navigation. It's very cute, but I found it to be a little bit difficult to control the speed of the horizontal scrolling. Which left me wondering: Was my mouse to blame or theirs? (Sighted by Lori Piquet)
YourDictionary.com
YourDictionary.com isn't just another online dictionary site. This lighthearted site just might help you avoid the most common 100 misspellings and mispronunciations in the English language (see the left column). The site also offers numerous other services, such as foreign language word lookup, a word frequency indexer, and a long list of links to current language research sites. (Sighted by Russell Jones)
RFID Information at Aim Global Network
OK, to be completely honest this is a subsection of a site rather than the root, but it's the closest thing I could find to a site dedicated to disseminating RFID Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) information and history. For those who aren't familiar with the term, these are tiny (and shrinking) programmable devices that act, at the simplest level, like remotely readable bar codes. While extremely useful for supply chain and inventory management, misuse of the tags at the retail level is also raising privacy concerns. Find out more by reading the list of topics in the right column. (Sighted by Russell Jones)
