Little Steven's Underground Garage
Little Steven's Underground Garage might not be the most elegantly put together Web site, but the design and the organizational prinicples behind it are really, really, really cool. My favorite part? Click on "The Garage Family" link and follow the directions to Little Steven's "Slightly Psychedelic Family Tree." The tree chronicles the history of garage, from Roots and R n' B pioneers to Frat Rock to Rockabilly to the latest garage bands carrying the torch. The site also contains an archive of Little Steven's radio show of the same name, a calendar in which visitors can post local shows, and other "Cool Garage Stuff." The best music site I've seen so far. (Sighted by Erin Gannon)
Scorecard
Get the facts on local pollution. This environmental pollution tracking site is a must-see if you're worried about your area. It has maps of the country which show levels of various pollutants and a community area where you can input your area code and it returns a list of all the environmental issues in your neighborhood. zefrank
It will take you several days to get through all the available weirdness on zefrank. However, there are some very interesting visual presentation ideas here, including use of multimedia with radio buttons (as in My Cat Annie) and some stupid Web tricks (as in Googly). (Sighted by Lori Piquet)
New Scientist
This science-oriented offshoot of the New Scientist print magazine provides links to articles, news, puzzles, and jobs, as well as in-depth reports on a wide variety of topics of interest to scientists, environmentalists, and curious readers. (Sighted by Russell Jones)
The Quantum Computer: An Introduction
Computers are so fast already, it often seems as if they're performing many tasks at once. But what if you could make them even faster, by making them truly perform several tasks at the same time? That's the target of quantum computing. This introduction will give you a solid base for understanding developments on the cutting edge of computing research. (Sighted by Russell Jones)
