International Herald Tribune
There are all kinds of great design features on this site, but two in particular to note: 1) When you are looking at an article, you can select whether you want it displayed in a one-column or three-column format and 2) each piece of content has a small + icon next to it, which deposits the item in your personal "Clippings file." This site will make you cancel your home delivery. (Sighted by Lori Piquet)
The Open Source Development Environment for .NET
Here's another case where the design of the site isn't nearly as important as its contents. SharpDevelop (or #develop) is a free open-source (released under the GPL) IDE you can use to create C# and VB.NET projects on Microsoft's .NET platform. If you develop .NET applications, you owe it to yourself to check this out and look at the source code, regardless of whether you plan to use the IDE. (sighted by Russell Jones)
The Indiana Geological Survey
This site uses a Flash extension called Zoomify to let you pan and zoom on aerial maps and photos interactively. It works nicely and looks great. If you live in Indiana you'll have a special appreciation for this: You might even be able to find your house. (Sighted by Lori Piquet)
National Music Museum
This is a virtual tour of a museum physically housed on the University of South Dakota campus. There are several collections, each with a virtual tour consisting of a succession of pages rather than a "virtual reality" tour. The site is very well done, the information is excellent, and you'll get to explore a collection you may never get to visit in person. (sighted by Russell Jones)
